TRCN registration

Registration for Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Professional Qualifying Examination is usually conducted to confer license to successful candidates who passed the TRCN Professional Qualifying Exams. This license validates it holders as Professional Teachers recognized in Nigeria and Abroad. There are four categories for the registration. These categories classify the mode of entry of each candidate based on their qualifications at the time of registration. They are:

1 Category A: Holders of Ph.D degree in Education or other Education Qualification. 10,000.00  5,000.00
2 Category B: Holders of Master’s Degree in Education or other Education Qualification 8,000.00  4,000.00
3 Category C: Holder’s of Bachelor’s Degree & Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), in other Education fields. 6,000.00  3,000.00
4 Category D: Holders of NCE. 3,000.00  2,000.00

Requirement for TRCN Registration

The following are the list of required documents for TRCN registration.

  • Birth certificate or Age declaration
  • 2 recent passport photographs
  • Photocopies of academic qualifications/certificates
  • Certificate of Origin
  • WAEC, NABTEB & NECO results/certificates

How to Register

  1. Log in to TRCN portal at then generate RRR, using your name and email, then copy and print the remita PIN. (You can use your phone or print pin from the nearest cyber café)
  2. Next, proceed to any of the banks listed below to make payment.

    3. Finally, visit the TRCN Office in your location or state with the above required documents.

    4. On reaching the TRCN Office, you will be given TRCN registration form to fill. Also, a stamp slip and official receipt will be given to you for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria Professional Qualifying Examination.

TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination Date

TRCN examination is usually conducted in two batches in a year. The next batch of exams for TRCN PQE will hold in October 2019. Shortlisted candidates for TRCN exams 2019 (October Diet), will then be conferred the teaching license upon success in the exams. You will be given forms to fill and issued an official receipt and an exam slip for the PQE exam coming up in October which will qualify you for the full licensed certificate and licensed ID card. 

How to Renew TRCN License

The renewal interval for Professional teachers’ license is three years. That is to say that each candidate must renew his/her license with every three years.  Before renewal, candidates are to pay yearly annual dues throughout the 3 years interval before renewal of license. Anyone who does not pay his/her annual dues may not be eligible for renewal of TRCN Professional License.

Other Criteria for Awarding Professional License to Prospective Candidates

  1. Candidates must have a record of good conduct.
  2. Ability to earn credit units in the TRCN Mandatory Professional Development Manual (MCPD).
  3. Candidates must be regular in all TRCN membership activities.

How to Upgrade Membership

Candidates who want to upgrade from one category like category C to D, will have to do so by filling and signing a membership grade standardize upgrading form only at the TRCN office upon request. Upgrading from one membership grade to another attracts a fee stipulated for the designated category.

Factors that can lead to De-registration

According to TRCN Act CAP T3 of 2004, registered and licensed teachers may be de-registered on the following grounds.

  • Using forge documents.
  • Cases of misconduct or related offence that is judged by the Teachers Tribunal.
  • Criminal offence that may have reached the law court.
